Last seen at BAM performing its original score to Lubitsch’s lost silent classic The Loves of Pharaoh (2012 Next Wave Festival), Numinous, the ensemble formed by composer Joseph C. Philips, synthesizes contemporary classical, big band, jazz, world, and popular music. On the program is music from the ensemble’s score for Pharaoh, Phillips’ string quartet “110 percent” (inspired, in the ensemble’s words, by “basketball and the music of Jay Z, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, and D'Angelo”), and old Numinous favorites.
