Drummer Lafrae Sci (Burnt Sugar Arkestra), violist Mazz Swift, saxophonist Micah Jaugh, and keyboardist Bruce Mack make up this jazz-rooted collective dedicated to spreading messages of equality and freedom through music. Teasing out the narratives of emancipation that bind together spirituals, blues, jazz, and more, the group—which has served as a cultural ambassador for the State Department—comes to BAMcafé Live, fresh on the heels of the Emancipation Proclamation’s 150th anniversary.
