“Calling Don Byron a jazz musician is like calling the Pacific wet—it just doesn’t begin to describe it… Byron has carpentered an extraordinary career precisely by obliterating the very idea of category.”
—Time

A world-renowned jazz clarinetist and composer whose honors include a Guggenheim fellowship and nominations for a Grammy and a Pulitzer Prize, Don Byron’s dazzlingly inventive compositions encompass everything from klezmer and classical to gospel and hip-hop. With dashes of Duke Ellington, Stravinsky, Raymond Scott, and contemporary R&B, Byron forges a playful, innovative sound that’s earned him a place at the very forefront of experimental jazz. He comes to BAMcafé Live as part of Noneusch Records at BAM.
