Haitian-born vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Richard “Earthman” Laurent (so dubbed by Tunisian shamans who praised his music’s healing properties) presides over this powerhouse funk ensemble that makes Fela Kuti-inspired, Afrobeat-meets-tribal-house jams. The live turntablism of former Fugees DJ Hard Hittin Harry locks into the danceable backbeat of West African djembe drumming to create a sound that’s both sensual and mystic.
