VIJAY IYER: Music of Transformation
Music by Vijay Iyer
Film by Prashant Bhargava
International Contemporary Ensemble
Conducted by Steven Schick
Nothing pianist and composer Vijay Iyer does is ever conventional, whether it’s a deviously skewed version of “Human Nature” by Michael Jackson or a burst of South Indian rhythms over a swung bass. The prodigiously talented player and 2013 MacArthur fellow comes to BAM to perform a program of three works representing his auspicious career to date: the world premiere of a solo piece for piano, commissioned by BAM; his recent suite Mutations I-X for piano, electronics, and string quartet; and his shimmering score to Prashant Bhargava’s film Radhe Radhe: Rites of Holi, an ecstatic descent into the streets of India during the titular Hindu festival, featuring actress Anna George, screened with accompaniment by Iyer and the International Contemporary Ensemble.

Grammy-nominated composer and pianist Vijay Iyer was named a MacArthur fellow in 2013.

Prashant Bhargava is an award-winning filmmaker and commercial director.
