All Vows
Maya Beiser
Jimmy Page power chords meet Yom Kippur prayers in cellist Maya Beiser’s convention-flouting survey of her eclectic musical personality. In Part I, Beiser—along with bassist Jherek Bischoff, drummer Zachary Alford, and a healthy dose of light-show spectacle—performs electronics-infused arrangements of songs by Nirvana, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, and others, plus new works by Glenn Kotche and David T. Little. In Part II, she turns toward the spiritual, performing Michael Gordon’s All Vows and Michael Harrison’s epic Just Ancient Loops, both set to films by Bill Morrison; Mohammed Fairouz’s cantorial Kol Nidre; and more.
