In 1971, Marvin Gaye asked the world What’s Going On. Five months later, Sly & The Familly Stone answered with There's a Riot Goin' On. The album was sparse, dense, militant, and a stark departure from the group’s sunnier early work, but it became an inspiration for artists ranging from Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock to Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, and The Roots. The acclaimed BRC Orchestra presents a fresh spin on a seminal classic with this tribute that connects black protest music across the generations.
