Cha Wa

MetroTech Commons
304 Bridge St (Brooklyn)
The spirit of New Orleans comes to MetroTech with the infectious funk sounds and elaborate costumes of Cha Wa. This Grammy-nominated brass band honors the legendary Mardi Gras Indians while building off their vibrant cultural roots, bridging the gap between NOLA street culture and modern R&B. “The term 'Cha Wa' basically means 'We're coming for you',” said drummer Joe Gelini. “It’s a Mardi Gras Indian chant […] It’s sort of our rallying cry; it’s how we get our heads in the game on stage, like weapons blazing."

This local group shares their laid-back grooves alongside soul singer Conya Doss.

The soul-searing blues of this Oakland artist pairs with Brooklyn’s high-octane drumline.

Van Hunt serves up his unique mix of soul, rock, and R&B, paired with a new hip-hop duo.
