“his shimmering sound has foreshadowed acid jazz and fueled hip-hop, as well as gracing contemporary R&B”
—Pitchfork
Soul-jazz icon and acclaimed vibraphonist Roy Ayers brings his soulful skills and feel-good vibes to the MetroTech stage. Ayers grew up immersed in bebop and began his professional career playing jazz with artists like Curtis Amy, Jack Wilson, and Herbie Mann. Since becoming a bandleader in 1970, Ayers has been a celebrated touchstone of R&B, embracing everything from the disco- and funk-infused grooves of acid-jazz to the rhythms of Afrobeat.
