The 1865 w/ Major Taylor
- 9PM
- 9PM
Curated by Black Rock Coalition
Blues-punk supergroup the 1865 has described its sound as “Bad Brains meets Foo Fighters in a black woman’s hair salon for a cup of tea.” The fivesome highlights the past with a warning for the present, with songs like “John Brown’s Gat” and “Buckshot” landing somewhere between a history lesson and a battle cry. The Brooklyn band includes founder and lead guitarist Sacha Jenkins, percussionist Chuck Treece, Afro-Brazilian bassist Flora Lucini, drummer Jason “Biz” Lucas, and Carolyn “Honeychild” Coleman on lead vocals and baritone guitar.
Major Taylor opens the evening, formed by Tesfa Zawdie (vocals, guitar), Kute Tonge (guitar), Djibril Toure (bass), and Federico Ughi (drums). With eclectic tastes and influences in all genres, this Brooklyn band came together in 2010 to create some good ol’ rock and roll, fusing metal, punk, and classic rock into their own vision of hard rock fury.

BAM welcomes all members of the community for this beloved annual celebration in honor of iconic civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., featuring keynote speaker Nikole Hannah-Jones.

An evening blending hypnotic electronica and funkadelic soul from two New York groups, curated by the Black Rock Coalition.
