HARRIET TUBMAN
- 9PM
The musical collective HARRIET TUBMAN, formed by guitarist/vocalist Brandon Ross, bassist Melvin Gibbs, and drummer JT Lewis, is named after the heroic African-American abolitionist who risked her life to escape from enslavement and help more than 300 others to do the same. The trio’s music—a fusion of soul, rock, jazz, blues, and avant-garde—examines the depths of these genres and counts Jimi Hendrix, Ornette Coleman, and Parliament-Funkadelic as influences. Its members have worked with artists including Cassandra Wilson, Living Colour, Lou Reed, Herbie Hancock, and Sting. Harriet Tubman's genre-defying sound is pure and liberated musical expression—a deep and soulful meditation on the concept of freedom.
