ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS
Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This annual celebration is New York’s largest public tribute to Dr. King’s life and vision.
Every January, artists, activists, civic leaders, and community members come together in the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House to honor the legacy and share the dream of Dr. King. The largest event of its kind in New York City, this celebration is presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Borough President and Medgar Evers College, and has been a BAM tradition since 1990.
In conjunction with the event, BAMcafé Live features a weekend of music programming inspired by Dr. King’s vision of social activism and equality. Past acts have included a salute to Curtis Mayfield, political hip-hop crew Blitz the Ambassador, and new-jazz vocalist Chandra Rule.
