With Charles Mee and Caridad Svich Moderated by Kaneza Schaal
In conjunction with the BAM Next Wave Festival’s upcoming presentation of Phaedra(s), this program will explore how the myth of Phaedra has been reimagined across media to reflect contemporary society, and the timeless truths it continues to reveal. Theater artist Kaneza Schaal moderates a conversation between playwright Charles Mee, whose many reinterpretations of the classics include True Love—based on Euripides' Hippolytus and Racine's Phaedra—and playwright Caridad Svich, author of several plays that radically riff on ancient Greek drama, including The Orphan Sea and the collection Blasted Heavens.
