A Ballad for Harlem Conversation: Making Community
Co-presented by The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and BAM
In conjunction with Barber Shop Chronicles
Join us for a conversation about the convening power of the barber shop and beauty salons in Harlem and Black communities throughout the country and around the world. Kamal Nuru, owner and president of Levels Barbershop and Barber World TV; Quincy Mills, author of Cutting Along the Color Line: Black Barbers and Barber Shops in America; Polo Greene, barber at Harlem Masters; and others (to be announced) come together for this one-night-only event, presented in partnership with BAM’s presentation of Barber Shop Chronicles. Moderated by Mike Muse, the co-founder of Muse Recordings and host of SiriusXM's award-winning show, The Mike Muse Show.

Set inside barber shops in six different cities, playwright Inua Ellams weaves a rich, joyful tapestry of unfiltered stories about father-son relationships and black masculinity, set to an Afrobeat score.
Come early and join the cast onstage with music, mingling, and dancing. The party continues after the show with a photo booth and pop-up photo exhibition, plus DJs curated by OkayAfrica and Okayplayer on Friday and Saturday evenings!
