Like The Great Tamer, his internationally acclaimed, Next Wave 2019 sold-out sensation, Transverse Orientation induces awe on a massive scale, set to the music of Vivaldi. With dreamlike, painterly composition—and the rendering of a bull, in all of its lifelike power—it will make you wonder what’s real. Papaioannou—one of the first choreographers to create new work for Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal in 45 years—exacts striking formal language, along with the best of experimental theater art.
