This group exhibition, Loss For Words, spans multiple spaces across BAM’s campus and examines the shift from a culture that communicates with text-based language to one where the image is the dominant tool of communication.
Andy Meerow’s text works feature words teetering on the edge of legibility, as redaction lines slice them in half, severing form from semantic reading. Meerow treats language as a physical entity, choosing words for their visual and sonic values rather than their definition alone. Images of incisions on the surface of the panels create an illusion of depth and physicality, situating words further into the context of concrete objects.
