Join us to celebrate the opening of Do What I Want: Selections from the Arthur Russell Papers. In this unique exhibition, BAM presents a selection of materials by the late composer, cellist, and electronic music pioneer. Explore notes and scores, listen to never-before-heard practice tracks, and delve deep into Russell’s creative process.

The reception also features a DJ set by Matthew Higgs, Director/Chief Curator at White Columns and a passionate supporter of Russell’s work. Higgs plays from his own extensive vinyl collection, spinning the best of the catalog alongside personal favorites from Russell’s friends and collaborators.

This event is free and open to the public.

Co-organized by:
Nicole Will, independent curator
Jonathan Hiam, curator, American Music Collection and the Rodgers and Hammerstein Archives of Recorded Sound, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts

Leadership support for BAM Visual Art provided by Agnes Gund and Toby Devan Lewis
