School-Time Performance: Breaths

Wed, Oct 28, 2026
Grades 9—12
    Part of
  • School-Time Performances
  • and
  • I Guess It Was My Destiny To Live So Long
Derived from Birago Diop’s iconic poem “Breaths,” this hour-long poetry and dance performance will concentrate on ancestral memory as it is tied to breath and the larger fabric of our lives. Join us as we remember ancestors’ legacies through our shared and individual breathing. Through breath, we are tied to generations before and those yet to be born. Remembering our breath keeps us in the present moment. Explore your own relationship with breath during this poignant performance featuring dance, poetry, and group breathwork. This performance will engage, inspire, and encourage young artists to bring their fullest selves into each space they inhabit. The intended audience is students in grades 7 through 12.
