The Seed of the Sacred Fig

- BAM Film 2024
Shot entirely in secret, this award-winning thriller by Mohammad Rasoulof (There Is No Evil) centers on a family thrust into the public eye when lawyer Iman (Zareh) is appointed as an investigating judge in the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. As political unrest erupts in the streets, Iman realizes that his job is even more dangerous than expected, making him increasingly paranoid and distrustful—even of his own wife, Najmeh, and their daughters Sana and Rezvan. Smuggled out of Iran to Hamburg, where documentary footage of actual street protests was added, The Seed of the Sacred Fig had its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a special jury award and an ovation of more than 10 minutes.
