Artist Residencies
For a fourth year, BAM welcomes a diverse cohort of seven innovative artists and artistic teams from various disciplines and backgrounds to its artist residency program. These dynamic, New York-based artists and artistic teams receive space, archival resources, and/or unrestricted honorariums to develop their work. Residents can shape their experience to best serve their artistic development and professional growth. With no obligation to present at BAM, they are encouraged to create freely.
BAM’s programming team selects resident artists through a cross-collaborative and transparent process, ensuring a diverse range of perspectives and genres are represented. BAM’s 2024 Resident Artists are:
- Baba Oludaré, a Master Apon, percussionist, and dancer exploring traditional medicines and holistic wellness rooted in African and African diasporic traditions.
- Hope Boykin, a two-time Bessie Award winner known for blending movement with powerful storytelling.
- mayfield brooks, innovating in performance art to explore the essence of Black life and create impactful narratives.
- Delano Burrowes, exploring Black double consciousness through multidisciplinary art forms.
- Kayla Hamilton, uplifting Black Disabled creatives and highlighting their stories through performance art.
- Soomi Kim, shedding light on visionary Asian American stories through dance theater.
- Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre, fostering cultural bridges and understanding through diverse artistic expressions.
