Part of Film
Directed by Spike Lee | 2000

With Damon Wayans, Savion Glover, Jada Pinkett Smith

A special event screening of Spike Lee’s funny, ferocious, and frightening satire that deploys centuries of racist imagery to confront the media’s role in perpetuating African-American stereotypes for ratings. A fed-up Black television writer proposes an impossibly offensive “new millennium minstrel show,” complete with performers in blackface, in hopes that it will get him fired. The only problem is, not only does the show get picked up, it becomes a runaway hit.

Film critic and curator Ashley Clark—former director of programming for BAM Film—introduces the film in conjunction with a new edition of his book Facing Blackness: Media and Minstrelsy in Spike Lee's Bamboozled from Film Desk Books, with a signing to follow.
