Do the Right Thing

Is there any film that better exemplifies the sweatsthetic of this series than this classic Spike Lee joint? Set on one street in Bed-Stuy on the hottest day of the year, as racial and social tensions alight, the film was nominated for two Oscars, as well as the Cannes Palme d’Or. Although made over thirty years ago, the  swelteringly hot, rapidly gentrifying, and politically volatile Brooklyn depicted in Do The Right Thing is of the utmost relevance in 2024; a sharp reflection of and warning to an America under conservative rule.
