All About Eve (1950): 75th Anniversary

Sat, Oct 11, 2025
    Part of
  • NewFest 37: New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival
  • and
  • BAM Film 2025
Directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz (1950)
With Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, George Sanders
One night after a performance, aging stage actress Margo Channing (Davis) meets an adoring young fan, Eve (Baxter), who slowly insinuates herself into her life. But Margo quickly learns Eve is far from naïve–her ruthless ambition threatens to topple Margo’s career and closest relationships.

Written and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, All About Eve is one of cinema’s most scathing (and endlessly quotable) dissections of ambition, aging, and the theater world. Bette Davis delivers a career-defining performance in a film that earned rare double Best Actress Academy Award nominations (Davis’ ninth, Baxter’s second) and left an enduring legacy that extends to everything from pop culture journalism to prestige television.
