Shortbus

Jul 25—30, 2025
    Part of
  • NYC 2000s
  • and
  • BAM Film 2025
Directed by John Cameron Mitchell (2006)
With Sook-Yin Lee, Paul Dawson, Lindsay Beamish, PJ DeBoy, Raphael Barker, Peter Stickles, Jay Brannan, Justin Vivian Bond, Alan Mandell, Adam Hardman, Ray Rivas, Bitch, Shanti Carson, and Jan Hilmer.
In John Mitchell’s 2006 comedy drama, a sex therapist who’s never had an orgasm, a disconnected dominatrix, and a colorful cast of misfits from all walks of life converge for a weekly salon of sorts—a mad nexus of art, music, politics, and polysexual carnality. Set in a Bush-weary post-9/11 NYC, the film was highly controversial for its unsimulated sex scenes and was barred from release in South Korea until 2009. In spite of the controversy (or because of it), Shortbus has earned its place as a cult favorite of early 2000s filmmaking.
