You Can't Take it With You

Sep 6—Sep 11, 2025
    Part of
  • Paul Reubens Selects
  • and
  • BAM Film 2025
Directed by Frank Capra (1938)
With Jean Arthur, James Stewart, Lionel Barrymore
Frank Capra directs this charming romantic comedy about Tony, Jr. (Jimmy Stewart), the heir to a munitions monopoly, who falls for his sugary sweet secretary, Alice Sycamore (Jean Arthur). When Tony’s uptight parents come to meet their future daughter-in-law's family, they get a front-row seat to the mischievous antics of the oddballs shacking up with Alice’s Grandpa Vanderhof. A revelatory blueprint for Pee-wee and his playhouse, the Vanderhof home is a haven for nonconformity, diversity, and fun, where everybody, according to Grandpa, “does just what he wants to do!”

Featuring an introduction by production designer and friend of Paul Reubens, Judy Becker, on Sep 6
