Flying Lotus
BAM DEBUT
In his experimental work as artist-producer and founder of Brainfeeder, the influential, Grammy-winning record label, Flying Lotus mixes electronic music with jazz and hip-hop. Deeply influenced by his genre-defying great-aunt Alice Coltrane—the late jazz pianist-harpist married to saxophonist John Coltrane—Flying Lotus has collaborated with artists including George Clinton, Tierra Whack, Solange, Kendrick Lamar, and film director David Lynch. An alumnus of The L.A. Film School, Flying Lotus recently continued his wide-ranging work in film by executive producing and composing the soundtrack to the 2021 Netflix anime series Yasuke, based on a 16th-century Black samurai.
Flying Lotus performs this orchestral hip-hop experience with strings master Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, who joins him at BAM following the show’s summer 2022 Hollywood Bowl premiere, conducting and performing with the “wickedly creative” (New York) Wordless Music Orchestra.
