BIO
Maren Hassinger
In the words of Maren Hassinger, the “use of space in sculpture can define our relationships to one another.” Her work observes our humanness in experiential encounters through mediums including sculpture, performance, dance, and installation. Hassinger rose as a part of the Black avant-garde art movement of Los Angeles, including frequent Studio Z collaborator Senga Nengudi, and Houston Conwill. Her works were also featured in MoMA’s monumental JAM (Just Above Midtown) exhibition, named for the 1974 NYC Black art gallery led by Linda Goode Bryant.
