This all-archival footage documentary zeros in on the original performer-president’s role of a lifetime. Teasing apart the spectacle at the heart of finger-on-the-button global diplomacy and nuclear build-up, the film follows Ronald Reagan’s rivalry with charismatic Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Tracing the Communicator-in-Chief’s public relations chops—which he used to overcome Soviet mistrust, the objections of a skeptical White House press corps, and the looming threat of WWIII—The Reagan Show chronicles the 80s US-Soviet Arms race vis a vis many moments caught on camera staring the Gipper.
