Mameet, a 17-year-old Pakistani living in Queens, lashes out after his basketball-star brother is killed in a robbery at the family store—a situation that grows more dangerous when he picks up a gun.
For Example (A Critique of Never)
One of two experimental films directed by Japanese conceptual artist and architect Shūsaku Arakawa, For Example (A Critique of Never) closely follows an unhoused boy (Jonathan Leeds) as he wanders the streets of downtown NYC in what first appears to be a documentary. Arakawa observes every step of his protagonist’s examination of the constantly shifting relationship between his body and its surroundings. At the time of production, Arakawa and his partner, Madeline Gins, were deeply engaged in research on the workings of the mind and the body in the process of perceiving the world.
Join us for a Q&A with actor Jonathan Leeds & filmmaker Nobu Yamaoka (Children Who Won't Die) following the screening!
