Written and directed by Karyn Kusama (Æon Flux, Yellowjackets) in her feature directorial debut, Girlfight stars Michelle Rodriguez as Diana Guzman, a hot-tempered Brooklyn high school student, who discovers boxing as an outlet for her frustrations. She falls in love with a talented amateur, and trains to become the gym’s first female champion. Girlfight premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2000, tying for the Grand Jury Prize and earning Kusama the Best Director Award.
