Amidst a mythically depicted Japan, a court astrologer’s wife conspires to murder, the astrologer’s apprentice goes mad in the woods, and the presence of ancient fox spirits may be the key to peace across a fractured nation. In stark contrast to the monochrome naturalism of his earlier masterwork, Bloody Spear at Mt. Fuji, visionary Japanese director Tomu Uchida offers wildly stylized widescreen tableaux inspired by bunraku and kabuki theater in The Mad Fox.
