Stuart Shepard (Colin Farrell), a slick but dishonest New York City publicist who plans to cheat on his wife with a client, who he calls from a Times Square phone booth to avoid detection. Picking up a ringing receiver, Shepard is told by an unnamed caller (Kiefer Sutherland) that he’ll be killed if he leaves the booth—a threat backed up with the tiny red light of a sniper’s rifle sight—prompting a tense stand-off and mounting crisis. Despite the unlikeliness of an operational phone booth in Times Square, Sutherland’s menace proves persuasive in this hyperbolic Hitchcock riff.
