Ex-convict Javier “El Tarzan” Lira turns his back on his criminal past, taking a job as a bill collector for a bank in order to reform his life. But when a corrupt cop recognizes and blackmails him, he is forced back into a dingy underworld that has lost its former glitter. Favored by Mexican critics, Life Sentence won four Ariel Awards (the Mexican equivalent of an Oscar) in 1979, including Best Film and Best Director.
