The Place Without Limits
Oct 25—Oct 30, 2025
Directed by Arturo Ripstein (1977)
With
Roberto Cobo, Gonzalo Vega, Ana Martín
A greedy real estate speculator threatens to drive a stake between La Manuela (Roberto Cobo, El Jaibo in Buñuel's Los Olividados), a gender-fluid brothel owner, and La Japonesita, their alluring daughter. And tensions mount further still when handsome drifter Pancho returns to town, sparking erotic rivalry. Based on a 1966 novel by Chilean writer José Donoso and scripted by Argentine writer Manuel Puig, The Place Without Limits is a milestone in Mexican cinema for its forthright depiction of queer desire and homophobic violence.
