Sambizanga
Feb 28—Mar 2, 2026
Directed by Sarah Maldoror (1972)
With
Domingos de Oliveira, Elisa Andrade, Jean M’Vondo
Sarah Maldoror, the first woman to make a feature film in Africa, chronicles Angola’s anti-colonialist struggle via the story of a woman’s relentless search for her resistance leader husband after he’s arrested and brutally imprisoned by the Portuguese authorities. Infused with the spirits of Marx and Frantz Fanon, Sambizanga is a love story, a bracing dramatization of a pivotal moment in Angola’s fight for freedom and a rousing call to revolution.
