The Harder They Come

Mar 1—3, 2026
    Part of
  • Ashley Clark presents: Selections from The World of Black Film
  • and
  • BAM Film 2026
Directed by Perry Henzell (1972)
With Jimmy Cliff
Perry Henzell’s The Harder They Come marked the epochal cultural moment that first brought reggae to the international stage and made the late Jimmy Cliff a star. Now, 50 years later, the film is as electric as ever. In a Scarface-y blend of crime drama and music, we follow a country boy in search of fame as he journeys through Jamaica as a laborer, recording artist, convict, ganja dealer, and outlaw folk hero.
