Forced to flee Uganda after dictator Idi Amin expels Asians from the country, Mina (Sarita Choudhury) and her Indian family resettle in Mississippi, hoping to rebuild their lives. There she forms a deep connection with Demetrius (Denzel Washington), a Black local. Their relationship sparks tension as both families and their communities struggle with the racial boundaries it crosses. As hostility grows and pressure mounts, Mina and Demetrius must decide whether to remain loyal to their families or follow their love.
