With
Philippe Maron, Edouard Joubeaud, Laurent Monnier
Director Agnès Varda (Cléo from 5 to 7) lovingly documents the childhood of her husband, filmmaker Jacques Demy (Lola, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg). A portrait of the artist as a young man and an ode to the magic of cinema, the film traces his coming of age during World War II in his hometown of Nantes, where puppet shows, fairy tales, opera, and above all, movies shape the imagination that would find expression in his distinctive cinematic vision. Interwoven with footage of Demy reflecting on his life, Varda’s film is both a portrait of a filmmaker in the making and a tender tribute from one filmmaker to another.
