With
Jacques Rivette, Serge Daney, Bulle Ogier, Jean Babilée, Jean-François Stévenin
A moving entry in the long-running Cinéma, de notre temps series brings us into the magical, melancholy art and life of Jacques Rivette. Structured in two parts, The Day and The Night, Claire Denis’s portrait follows film critic Serge Daney in conversation with Rivette, exploring his career as both a critic and a director, his approach to filmmaking and working with actors, and his relationships with fellow figures of the French New Wave. Including clips from Rivette’s films, moments from his quiet, almost isolated life in Paris and appearances by some of his longtime collaborators, the documentary offers an intimate portrait of one of the most distinctive filmmakers of the French New Wave.
