Miracle Mile

May 10—21, 2026
    Part of
  • Pynchonesque
  • and
  • BAM Film 2026
Directed by Steve De Jarnatt (1988)
With Anthony Edwards, Mare Winningham
Mostly portrayed in tense real-time, De Jarnatt’s apocalyptic thriller follows a young man who overhears a phone call revealing that a nuclear war has started and missiles will hit Los Angeles within 70 minutes. The bleak exploration of the moments before an impending nuclear holocaust is kept in balance by a romantic fatalism, and contains a unique explicit nod to Pynchon: an apocryphal “Cliff’s Notes for Gravity’s Rainbow.”
