Silent Friend

From visionary Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi, Silent Friend follows three loosely interconnected vignettes revolving around a gingko tree over the course of a century. Taking place in 1908, 1972, and 2020, each moment captures people—like Dr. Wong (played by legendary Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai) and Alice (Léa Seydoux)—in often clumsy but sincere attempts to free themselves from life’s monotony by creating harmony with plants and the garden world the tree inhabits.
