With
Joey Kennedy, Ross O'Donovan, Margo Lee, Max Cullen
An Australian teen who works as a barmaid in her mother’s pub fantasizes about becoming a rock sensation, and intends to make her dreams a reality by getting her family onto the television talent show Starstruck. The mosh-pit collision of Armstrong’s (My Brilliant Career, Little Women) sumptuous, painterly aesthetic and the grit of ‘80s working class inner-city Sydney infuses the film with an impish, unruly beauty that is mesmerizing on screen. The lace-and-leather effect of a film so fiercely feminine and chaotically punk is infectious, charming, and utterly original. Starstruck is an ecstatic, roadside-stand-firework of a musical comedy that celebrates the heat of being young, wanting more, and believing you can get it.
