Ailey Arts In Education: Finding Grace Community Workshop

Inspired by Ronald K. Brown’s powerful 1999 classic Grace, this free workshop introduces participants to Brown’s movement style through a guided warm-up and choreography. Participants explore themes of transformation, healing, and compassion through movement, discovering how grace can be embodied in dance and in everyday life.

      MEET THE TEACHING ARTISTS

      • Cheryl Rowley-Gaskins
        Cheryl Rowley-Gaskins (Miami, FL) is currently a Teaching Artist for Ailey Arts In Education & Community programs. Mrs. Rowley-Gaskins began her dance training over 20 years ago. She trained at New World School of the Arts and the Ailey School. She was a member of Ailey II for three seasons and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for five seasons. She has studied various dance forms, including Horton, Graham, Limon, Dunham, West African, Afro-Caribbean, Tap, and Hip Hop. She was previously a teaching artist for AileyCamp Miami, and enjoys inspiring kids and teaching freedom of expression and individuality through dance movement.
      • Aaron Charles Thomas
        Aaron Charles Thomas (Harlem, NY) is currently a Teaching Artist for Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs, and the Program Administrator for AileyCamp New York and AileyCamp Newark. Mr. Thomas is an art therapy major at Hostos Community College, and has worked with youth for over eight years in various settings and programs. He is a veteran of Children’s Aid/AileyCamp New York, and will have served as a staff member of Children’s Aid/Ailey Camp New York for seven years this upcoming summer. Mr. Thomas performs with the Masters at Work Dance Company, and showcases his work in a variety of industry shows. A believer in giving back what he has learned over the years, he teaches beginners vogue technique and performance classes within his community. Mr. Thomas enjoys creating a space of positive expression and is a natural leader.
