Summer Sounds

The Adam Space is coming alive and keeping it cool this summer! BAM invites you to join us for Summer Sounds, three nights of free live performances organized by BAM artist-in-residence and curator Helga Davis. Join us on Wednesday nights, August 5, 12 & 19, when we’ll treat you to rejuvenating performances by some of the most exciting voices in NYC music and poetry.

Summer Sounds begins on Wednesday, August 5 with Lô & Tierra, water and earth. The program brings together Natie, a Creole singer-songwriter and violinist who launched her solo career after performing with Jay-Z and Beyoncé on their On the Run II Tour, and Yaissa Jimenez, who earned an MFA from NYU, then went on to claim the Salm Petry Continental Cup, a major international spoken-word and poetry slam prize.

Wednesday, August 12 brings Rucyl, a singular artist whose sonic practice moves among performance, installation and instrument design. A product of Philadelphia’s potent underground scene, she was shaped in equal measure by 70s soul, 80s dancehall, 90s hip-hop, and Sun Ra.

Our final Summer Sounds event on Wednesday, August 19 features The Love Show, a powerful company of sensational performers spanning the gamut from opera to pop and soul. More than a concert, The Love Show mixes music and community, extending an invitation to love thy neighbor as thyself.
