Vollmond (Full Moon)

Mar 4—17, 2027
Vollmond (Full Moon)
A piece by Pina Bausch
Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch
    Part of
  • Winter/Spring 2027
Water gushes over a giant boulder, rushing across the stage and raining down on a dozen dancers as they hurtle and glide toward couplings and confrontations. This is the passionate world of Vollmond (Full Moon), one of the final works completed by the visionary dance-theater pioneer Pina Bausch (1940—2009), set to a playfully eclectic score featuring Tom Waits, Cat Power, Amon Tobin, René Aubry, and more.

First performed in 2006 by Tanztheater Wuppertal, the matchless company Bausch led for more than three decades, this astonishing evening-length dance comes back to BAM, where it first splashed down during Next Wave 2010. The eagerly anticipated return of the company, now led by artistic and executive director Dr. Daniel Siekhaus, extends a creative partnership first sparked by Bausch’s New York debut at BAM in 1984.

Elemental, visceral, and utterly unforgettable, Vollmond is a breathtaking testament to Bausch’s singular art and enduring legacy, and an experience to be felt as much as seen.
