Winner of Sundance’s Special Jury Award for Best Cinematography, this modern fable is set in a remote West African village, where Mama Efe acts as an intermediary between the people and the all-powerful water deity Mami Wata. However, doubt is sown amongst the villagers when a young boy is lost to a virus. Efe’s devoted daughter Zinwe and skeptical protégé Prisca warn her of the simmering unrest—but they can’t stop the ideological clash that erupts after the arrival of a mysterious rebel.
Captured in magnificent black-and-white, this singular new work from rising star CJ “Fiery” Obasi makes for an unforgettable experience on the big screen.
