Pieces of April

Jul 22—Jul 24, 2025
    Part of
  • NYC 2000s
  • and
  • BAM Film 2025
Directed by Peter Hodges (2003)
With Katie Holmes, Derek Luke, Patricia Clarkson, Oliver Platt, Alison Pill, John Gallagher Jr., Alice Drummond, Lillias White, Isiah Whitlock, Jr.
April Burns (Katie Holmes), the black sheep of her family, has fled suburbia to try and establish herself in NYC. To reconnect with her mother (Patricia Clarkson) and father (Oliver Platt), April invites them, and her wisecracking brother (John Gallagher Jr.) and perfect sister (Alison Pill), for Thanksgiving dinner in her grimy Lower East Side apartment. But some serious news complicates the family’s trip into the city, and on top of everything, April's oven is broken, which means she has to try and patch the meal together using her wacky neighbors’ apartment. This lo-fi gem of the early 2000s was released to wide acclaim and earned Clarkson an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
