With
Yen Cheng-kuo, Tan Chih-Kang, Jack Kao, Vicky Wei
Two teenagers in a small Taiwanese town spend their days roughing up karaoke joint patrons and getting into nefarious antics, until they stumble on a bag overflowing with guns and drugs. They hightail it to Taipei in pursuit of criminal direction from a gang-affiliated friend. From humble town to sprawling metropolis, Hsiao-ming explores the nation's economic growth in the decade, and how it reverberated through the lifestyles of youth. Lim Giong’s song "A Soundless Place,” would go on to become a hit in Taiwanese pop, and features director Hou Hsiao-hsien as co-performer.
