Shakedown

For two years, Leilah Weinraub documented the happenings of Shakedown, an underground stripclub and party for Black lesbians in Los Angeles. Drawing on hundreds of hours of footage Weinraub shot as the club’s resident videographer, the film captures dancers, DJs, organizers, and revelers both on and off the dance floor, immersing viewers in a community built around pleasure, performance, and freedom. Blending raw club footage, contemporary interviews, and archival material, Shakedown evokes the vibrant, fleeting world that pulsed through the club until its closing in 2004.
