The Player
Nov 8 & 9, 2026
Directed by Robert Altman (1992)
With
Tim Robbins, Greta Scacchi, Fred Ward, Whoopi Goldberg, Dean Stockwell
Griffin Mill, a Hollywood studio executive with a shaky moral compass (Robbins), finds himself caught up in a criminal situation that would be right at home in one of his movie projects. Blending film noir with biting industry satire, Robert Altman’s The Player, based on Michael Tolkin’s novel, explores Hollywood ambition and hypocrisy. Featuring one of American cinema’s most celebrated opening shots and a lineup of star cameos, the film includes Dean Stockwell as Andy Civella, a Hollywood executive. This complexly woven grand entertainment marked Altman’s triumphant commercial comeback in the early 1990s.
